The second bread braid of the Healthy Bread in 5 Minutes a Day was the Soft Whole Wheat Sandwich Bread. I made mine from white whole wheat flour, adding a bit more salt and a tad less yeast than the original recipe due to high altitude issues. True to the recipe, it was a soft bread and so I decided to turn some of my dough into rolls- they disappeared rather quickly at Sunday dinner.
My husband's family hails from a beautiful place in Dorset, England where they have tall hedges and thatched roofs. The story goes that for generations they were gardeners for Lord Sandwich, at Mapperton Manor. When we eat a sandwich at our house, we can't help but think a moment about the man who gave his name to the convenient hand-held bread, meat and cheese. Go here to learn more about Lord Sandwich, John Montagu, 4th Earl of Sandwich.
There are many good bakers out there with wonderful blogs that have been
baking up a storm with this healthy sandwich bread.
And go make your self a sandwich!

Don't you just love the white whole wheat flour? I just love it and can't seem to use it enough in recipes lately.
ReplyDeleteGorgeous loaf and the rolls look so perfect. What kind of spread is on the bread? A homemade jelly?
Well, this is definitely the perfect bread for that! :-))
ReplyDeleteLove your adorable dinner rolls - so elegant!
Michelle- I do love the white whole wheat flour! I read on one of your answers that you can only buy it in one pound packages- that's no fun.
ReplyDeleteThe spread on the bread is an organic raspberry jam - it's a family favorite.
Lord Sandwich seems to hunt me. I just saw that the sandwich was named one of the top 10 inventions in a German TV show last night. Today he would be rich with that invention back than he migh have lost a fortune since he liked to play cards so much.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful loaf! Mine didn't last long either. My roommates and I devoured it within about two days!
ReplyDeleteYour loaf looks terrific and I like the idea of making dinner rolls. I love to use the white whole wheat flour too:D The picture of Mapperton Manor is gorgeous. Wouldn't you love to go there and see it in person?
ReplyDeleteKim, We did actually get to go and see Mapperton and tour the grounds and visit the cottages where my husband family all lived. It was an incredible trip. Two years ago three of my kids when with my husband to see the family site as well - it's starting to feel like a shrine, but what a great one it is! You're darling to care.
